Strategen Dr. H D Kanga Cricket League – 2009

Our Club retained the position in ‘A’ Division with overall good performance and Parel Sporting Club also retained their position in ‘B’ Division.

Cricket Tournaments

The year 2009-10 was very fruitful year with regard to Cricket achievements. We won five important tournaments with both Senior and Junior Cricket teams by giving their best performance.

All our teams like MIG CC, Parel Sporting, Star CC and Friends SC participated in various tournaments of MCA. MIG CC started the year by a winning note by clinching Purshottam Shield Cricket Tournament in the month of December, 10.

As you know we conduct three tournaments like Padmakar Talim, Young Comrade and Mahim Dadar Challenge Shield Tournaments from more than one decade under MCA. This year our boys (MIG CC team) did well to win two out of three tournaments i.e. Padmakar Talim and Mahim Dadar Challenge Shield and our players like Siddharth Chitnis, Amit Dhulup, Abhishek Raut, Sandesh Paralkar excelled in their performance and won us a total three major tournaments

We also appointed Mr. Kiran Mokashi as Chief Coach, which will further lift the performance of our teams.

MIG Cricket Academy

Under the guidance of ex-Indian cricketers like Mr. Sandeep Patil and Mr. Chandrakant Pandit, MIG Cricket Academy was formed 12 years ago. This Academy has been a breeding ground for many youngsters from all over Mumbai. Many of our trainees have represented Mumbai in various disciplines and are continuing to do so even today. The boys from the MIG Cricket Academy graduate to play for different teams of MIG Cricket Club and in the process help in keeping the MIG Flag flying high. Players Siddharth Chitnis (MIG CC Captain), Balkrushna Shirke, Ankush Jaiswal, Pratik Dabholkar, Akash Parkar, Mopli Selvaraj, Amit Dhulap etc. who are representing MIG CC ‘A’ Team today, are the products of MIG Cricket Academy.

The achievements of MIG CC ‘A’ teams performance were at their best and to add to the glory MIG Cricket Academy also showed that even they are not going to take a back seat. MIG Cricket Academy also gave a good performance and won 2 tournaments i.e. Bombay Gymkhana U/14 Tournament and Indian Gymkhana U/12 Tournament. MIG Cricket Academy showed their mental in both formats of the game as Bombay Gymkhana U/14 tournament is a two day game and Indian Gymkhana being a 30 over’s limited tournament. Our Academy players displayed tremendous skill and temperament by winning both the tournaments convincingly.

Summer Cricket Coaching Camp

This year Summer Coaching Camp was also a great success as not only a large no. of 269 students participated but new innovative drill/warm-up games were introduced. This innovation drills not only made easy to understand the game but also improves the level of fitness of each individual. All these activities were done under the supervision of experienced Coaches.

Apart from 1½ months coaching camp, this year we brought Guest Speakers like Ex-Test Cricketer Mr. Chandrakant Pandit who spoke with the children on batting technique and our senior players like Amit Dani who interacted and helped them to understand the importance of fielding and how to raise the level of their fielding performance. Our Chief Coach Mr. K Mokashi gave some bowling lessons and Prashant Shetty gave youngsters some important Cricket tips on overall improvement.

The success can be judged by the fact that most of the students parent wanted to have regular Coaching Camp for their Children. Considering the interest, it has been decided to start Coaching Camp from October 2010 to March 2011.

Shatkar Trophy

Last year Managing Committee decided to hold and support one of the oldest Junior boys Selection Tournament in Mumbai. 26th Shatkar Trophy Cricket (U/16 MCA Selection Trials) Tournament was then organized by MIG Cricket Club from 10th – 20th November, 2009,which was won by Umrigar XI against Rangnekar XI in the finals.

Prize Distribution Function

The prize distribution function pertaining to the three Cricket Tournaments conducted by our Club i.e.Padmakar Talim, Young Comrade and Mahim Dadar Challenge Shield Tournaments held on 16th June, 2010 at our Club’s Galaxy Hall. Mr. Chandrakant Pandit, former Test player was the Chief Guest. The feel good factor of prize distribution function was that most of the prizes were given to MIG CC players for their outstanding performance by winning two out of three trophies.

Carrom

This year was a big achievement for Carrom game as we conducted Men’s and Woman’s 13th SAARC Countries Carrom Championship 2009 from 7th to 9th August, 2009, wherein Asian Countries like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives participated. The Championship was inaugurated by Mr. Sandeep Patil, Former Test Cricketer. The Championship was under the aegis of “All India Carrom Federation and Asian Carrom Confederation” and was a great success since viewers gathered in good numbers and appreciated the arrangements. Our Club once again was able to hold the reputation of being good Organizers. Top National and International ex-players were also present to view the Championship and India retained both the titles keeping alive their carrom supremacy with display of fine skills.

Table Tennis

Mumbai Suburban District Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2009 was held at our Badminton Court and Bird View Gallery from 13th – 15th October 2009. Most of the seeded players participated in this championship and the same was supervised by great Indian ex-player and National Champion Kamlesh Mehta. We received over two hundred entries and on the basis of this tournament, Mumbai Suburban District team was selected to represent State Championship held at Sangli, Maharashtra

Badminton

Badminton remains the most coveted indoor game of our club. Most of our members avail this facility. Badminton coaching is imparted to aspiring children under guidance of Mr. Jitesh Padukone.
Due to Swine Flu this year we were unable to conduct 1st Maharashtra State Senior Badminton Selection Tournament which is regularly organized by us.

Few of our Club members children like Sanna Goredattar, Nitya Vaidya, Divya Vaidya, Siddharth Joshi,Yug Nair gave some excellent performance during the year. Divya Vaidya won the Arch Pharmalab- All Mumbai tournament U/13 Girls Singles organized at North Indian Association, Matunga. Riya Pillai, Viplav Kuvale, Viraj Kuvale (our playing members.) also performed well in open tournament in Mumbai. Riya Pillai won Gold medal at the School National U/16 Girls Singles which was held at Balewadi, Pune. Riya Pillai represented India in Youth Asian Badminton Championship held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Viraj Kuvale won the Boys U/10 Greater Mumbai District Championship with Yug Nair being Runner Up in the same category and Viplav Kuvale won the Boys U/16 title.

Hubert Miranda our playing member won the official World Championship held at Punta Umbria, Spain and also won the 60+ Singles Gold Medal title at the World Masters held at Sydney, Australia both in October, 2009. Shirish Nadkarni and Hubert Miranda reached Quarter Finals of the 55+ Doubles Category at Punta Umbria, Spain. G.D. Birla Tournament for Veterans was organized at Bombay Gymkhana and our MIG CC team comprising of Sanjeev Patki, Manal Shanbhag, Ajit Nair, Milind Ghate, Hubert Miranda, Vilas Kuvale, Yogesh Padukone and Jitesh Padukone who were Runners Up in the Team Championship. In the open event Hubert Miranda Shirish Nadkarni were Runners Up in 50 + Doubles.

As per regular practice, this year too Inter Club Badminton Tournament was held from 5th – 7th February, 2010 and most of the members participated with great enthusiasm. The Championship was held for different categories and the Winners are as under:
